Welcome
Telling lyrical stories that celebrate joy, expand understanding, and foster compassion . . .
I’m Patrice Gopo, and I create
Long ago, a calendar for my parents with the name of each month penned in calligraphy
Long ago, a patchwork quilt I constructed from squares of my old clothes
Long ago, a modern retelling of Cinderella I structured as a play, printing the script on fluorescent paper, a role for each child in the neighborhood
And a while ago, a skirt I made from an old pair of jeans and jade fabric tinged with gold
And a while ago, a book club that really never took off, but everyone I speak with remembers that first book we read
And a while ago, a dream that the words I wrote might be for more than just me
And not so long ago, a book of photographs and stories for my oldest daughter when she turned 10–Ten Things I Want to Tell You on the Occasion of Your Tenth Birthday
And not so long ago, an infinity scarf I knitted with chunky yarn, mustard in color–in memory of my grandmother who first taught me to knit
And not so long ago, a watercolor painting of a cardinal that I framed and placed on our wall alongside my youngest daughter’s painting of our home.
And there is more: I create spaces for sharing stories, places for thinking through ideas, situations flooded with laughter, and ways to cherish memories both significant and mundane. I do this for myself and, along the way, sometimes I have the joy of helping to do this for others.
